It does not react with water and oxygen in the atmosphere, but turns black when exposed to ozone, hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur. It is inert to most acids, quickly dissolves in dilute nitric acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid, and its surface can be corroded by hydrochloric acid. It is soluble in molten alkali hydroxide, alkali peroxide, and alkali cyanide in the air or in the presence of oxygen. Most silver salts are light-sensitive and insoluble in many acids.
